Goathead

2025, 16” x 16” x 40” Plastic, aluminum, plaster

Goathead refers to an invasive species— Tribulus terrestris— originally from Europe and parts of Asia, now dominating ecosystems in the United States. Toxic to animals and harmful to surrounding flora, its form is stripped of color in the installation, reimagined as alien. This act of re-alienating or alienizing unpacks the layered violence of colonization and ecological domination.

Despite its toxicity, the plant is visually striking— its caltrop shaped seeds resemble a radial weapon, and its interactions with the human body include effects like stimulation and aphrodisiac. The contradiction— beauty and danger, allure and aggression — makes it an emblem of complex ecological entanglements, a radial species that disrupts and redefines the environments it enters.
