Bird of Paradise
2020, 13' x 8' x 15' vinyl table cloth
Bird of Paradise is an extra-large inflatable sculpture made from picnic-style vinyl tablecloths, materials commonly associated with domestic celebration and care. Assembled into an imposing abstract form, the work fills space with bright color and slow movement, transforming familiar materials into an immersive environment. The sculpture engages sexual form and the psycho-sexual tensions of motherhood, reflecting on how desire, labor, and bodily autonomy are reshaped through caregiving. While addressing complex and often unspoken pressures, the work invites play and lightness, encouraging viewers to encounter these themes through bodily presence, movement, and shared sensory experience.
